We had a shot of an electric hot hatch, well made, lots of nice details and really nice interior, first fully electric car I’ve tried, not as fast as I’d have liked though.
The rear lights are a nice touch, it’s a shame the car’s black, it hides all the features, there was a lime green non Alpine version in the showroom, it looked much better despite not having the sculpted bulges.
Given what Hyundai has achieved with the Ioniq 5N, I was disappointed with the Alpine when I drove it (and I think the A110 is superb).
I had hoped that they would give it a meaningful performance hike over the Renault 5 but whilst I like the look of it, I feel like the Renault 5 ended up the better package overall.
Whilst a very different price point, this is quite a leap over both...
PS - Ewan, if you haven't driven an Ioniq 5N, it is worth the trip. They really shine in a 24-48 hour test drive because it takes time to explore exactly what it is capable of.
I’m perhaps judging it harshly, this particular one could be bought for a bit less than £30k nearly new, the quality was superb, that was proper Nappa leather, the anodised alloy knobs were jewel like, even the roof lining was cool, it had a sort of deep waffle texture. In that respect, way better than flimsy hot hatches of old and far better brakes but just not much of a thrill, horrible torque steer too. Maybe in the future when there’s no choice but for now, we’ll stick to old fashioned petrol, it was my young lad who was interested, he’d sold his Alfa Giulia and wanted something else special which this is, he nearly bought a new Alfa but chickened out and bought a BMW instead. I hate to admit it but it’s a great car, I can see why they’re popular, you can drive far closer to the back of folk and you don’t have to faff about with indicators any more, it feel like you get there much quicker.🤣

... and you only have to use the nearside lanes for cutting across when entering/leaving the motorway.
