cerealsurfer. Met your dad a few years ago now at a REME open day and we had a long chat about series 1s. Did the steering refurb on my first series 1 and i think I bought the last kiit at the factory as a spare. The ruubber cush should be changed every other service apparently. I sold the spares to Ollie for his dads Aero as his also had the original set up. Most cars have been upgraded to the early mini pumps the early version was quite fragile as shown.

Yes… the mini pump swap route was the common fix.

We were keen to keep the mechanical drive. The cush drive is less likely to be a problem now and replacements can be made if needed.

The pump itself isn’t really the problem - it’s the multi piece coupling and the tiny pieces which make it up. Combined with one of the most delicate being a cast piece.

Fingers crossed this replacement part won’t need to be touched again.

Its an easy fix when you got the bits. What youve had made looks good. The castallated bit on the engine doesent seem to wear so much its the bit youve manufactured. The mini pump conversion was about a grand fifteen years ago if i remember correctly with a recon pump from early mini. Look after the air con unit thats a whole lot of pain I sealed a plasic pouch over mine.
