The CX is water tight .
I went down to Torbay to join the late Frank Lomax on his round the UK coast drive for charity. That let me visit my mum & then drive from Torquay to Exminster wiuth Frank. Well it pissed it down & by the time I got home to Bucks I oaked. I was in my 1997 +4 short door car.ith no seals on the doors water flooded in on the A303. Still it all dried out & Frank made money for Help for Heroes.

I bought some draft excluder self adhesive rubber seals to help cure the issue.

It may well be that Kevin the chap who rebuilt that which was his 8k mile barn find Morgan circa Y2Y well knew of most if not all the foibles that a Morgan might present over time, and thus took the old +8 to bits and rebuilt it to match his personal ideals by rebuilding it to make it as foible free in use as he could, all of which I became the benefactor of in 2002, and right up to this present day. As for the fit of the hood, even in the heaviest of rain, no more than an occasional drip entered the cockpit, and driving through puddles did not equate to ending up with wet carpets as Kevin had sealed up what I assume may be the usual points of water ingress around the floorboards and elsewhere during his careful reconstruction processes.

During the rather wet JockMog trip to Northumberland quite a few years back, it was noted that the hood was not as waterproof as it was previously, as it seems the stitching along the seems was the culprit, but by then the hood was quite an age and had spent most of it`s life folded on the shelf above the axle, also the smart appearance when the hood is in situ is achieved to some degree by the aftermarket leverage/tensioning system which would seem to put quite some degree of stress on the aged stitching over time, may have exacerbated the issue...?

I suspect that the original hood design (if that is what I have) with it`s sealing flaps seems likely to work rather well, on a Trad, though during the time I have owned my old Mog, I suspect I have used the hood rarely, and mostly on weekend or longer trips away from home when caught out by heavy rain..

Just run some wax along the seams to seal them. I used the wax for sealing cotton jackets.

Thanks John, it is many a year since I last maintained waterproofing on my Barbour m/cycle kit, In more affluent times, I upgraded to leather, seems Barbour became haute coture a while back for other than m/cyclists... ? (-: In truth as my Morgan usage in the rain is likely to be a rarity given it`s use tends to be restricted to fair weather days only, I doubt I will set off in search of wax jacket reproofing... I can only imagine the quizical looks I might receive from staff in asking for such kit in a shop these days.... (-:

Just that with mine .... had a minor leak via the seams and proofing wax cured it .... roof got it's real first test on the trip down to Goodwood .... rain was Biblical and water from the flooded roads bursting over the top of the car like a ship in a storm ... was pleasantly surprised how well the hood kept it out ... had some come in over the scuttle as the bottom screen seal has to cope with having a fold-down screen but even that was manageable .... only annoying thing was the air bow-wave from fast artics going the other way sometimes sucked the sidescreens out from being tucked behind the screen pillars ... meant tugging them back in regularly ... have had worse problems in my life though! 🙂

Phil ... so, these stop the tops of the sidescreens wagging about? .... I often run with just the aeroscreens when the weather is good .... do they hinder easy removal of the sidescreens?

Yes - you have to fit an additional 'knob' (same as those on the outside, and it comes with the kit) on the inside but that doesn't affect anything, it then pulls the sidescreen in tight and keeps it really solid.

Removal of sidescreens is just as easy, but you just need to unscrew three knobs rather than two.
