The alternator casing on my 2005 Plus 4 has cracked. The original part manufactured by Visteon is no longer available. The Visteon part number was 1478119.
A compatible new replacement part manufactured by either Lucas, Febi Bilstein or Hella is available. The Lucas one is the cheapest and there’s not much price difference between the other two. The charging current of the Lucas and Febi Bilstein is the same at 90 amps whereas the Hella unit charges at 115 amps.
Any thoughts about these manufacturers or suggestions as to a better alternative?

An outfit I’ve found helpful on this topic is:

https://brise.co.uk

Give them a ring if you want to talk to someone who can help with the differences and guide you a bit in the options.

There's a reason the Lucas is the cheapest, as they haven't existed for years the box will contain something 'made to a price' and is just trading on the recognisable logo & name

Buyer beware - the quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten

Thanks, I’ll give them a ring on Tuesday. Your Dad sorted it out last time I had issues with the alternator.

Yes, I was aware of Lucas’ reputation. I was hoping for comments about the Hella one. A German company, though not necessarily German-made.
