I am not convinced, at least from my experience and the counsel of the more astute restorers and the last true trad Morgan Development Director. Bolt looseness at the top merely makes the inevitable below happen sooner.

Though always possible from owner error, the plague of paint cracking at the top and brace shearing at the bottom began after the start of the Steve Morris era. This is a risky thing with any product developed over 100 years. Old lessons are forgotten and one of the sadder results was the wing brace. It was explained to me by wiser sorts, that the brace must be made precisely for each car. It must rise up to the wing and slope immediately downward allowing it to harmlessly rock at the top. Instead, during Steve's era, they tried cutting assembly time by 1. slotting the braces..thusly weakening them and 2. they forgot the way the brace is supposed to meet the wing. Individual fitting became history. In such ways are products degraded The badly fit brace cracks the paint at the wing and they shear at the bottom..transferring hassles to owners. Of course, they tried remedial measures, but nothing was as good as long previous experience has previously dictated.

My 2022 MMC recreation also cracked the paint at the top, multiple times, just like the B&C car, and the brace sheared at the bottom on both sides. This stuff is SO frustrating for owners. Happily I still had the braces from my 1984 and made them fit. No issue since. However, these braces are pathetically easy for an amateur owner to make and fit as they should be. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/wingstays.html I advise owners to remove the later MMC braces and make their own. It is a sure cure and eleiminates the possibuility of cracked wing paint and sheared braces. Eliminate the slots and shape the brace properly. Use a plastic sleeve at the top bolt if you have alloy wings.

To clarify my statement on the swinging sidelight. It appeared that the sidelight was only held on by one loose bolt ( if any) which means the wing was not firmly connected to the support bar and therefore it had no support and likely to flex and crack the paint. On my 93 plus 4 the sidelight is held on by two bolts, one through the support bar with a scrap of rubber between the bar and the wing and a second bolt through the wing into the rear of the sidelight keeping it straight. There is a smaller hole between the two bolt holes that the wiring feeds through. A rubber gasket sits between the sidelight and the wing, presumably this compensates for the fact that the wing is curved and the lamp is flat.
Breakage of the steel support bar means the loading must be considerable.

Saw a very nice (looking) 4/4 on youtube that appeared to be a bargain at Matthewsons with a Zetec engine -bright yellow. They certainly are not that expert on many makes and appear to believe that very basic Fords are worth ludicrous money.

Exactly that Murray when a bog standard 1,300 Escort auto is worth £16,000 with blistering paint when a crossflow Morgan can be had here for similar money !
Mind it is only the asking price not reality yet..

Matthewsons on occassion do get strong money, on a repeat espisode last night they got £140k for a pile of rust in the shape of an Aston Martin DB4, even the Aston restoration specialists said it was the worse they had seen.

Now that is a crazy old thing at that price.

I know Neilda on here had one from new and said it was underwhelming to drive.

I was up at Kevin Vernon's one day when he had a DB5 in for some work, he said the same thing, he was most unimpressed with its driving qualities. Good looking though.

He should have got a DB7!!
