i have managed to obtain a rovacomlite diagnostic scanner for my 2003 plus 8 with gems.Registered it with blackbox, paid to have it work on my car .I contacted blackbox and in all fairness to them they did give some info on how to set up the now wretched machine on to my laptop.Plenty of scratching of head, bribed the spotty geeky kid from nextdoor and a trip to the local computer oddball and got nowhere. Although i now know that my laptop is "to advanced" having windows 11 to be able to allow a download. I have regrouped delved into my draw of doom and found a dusty laptop in there that has an earlier windows on it,so will have another go next week when my blood pressure gets back to near normal,i seem to have run up against one minor electrical glitch after another which is cheesing me off somewhat, does anybody know more on how to install the system on to a lap top.

I feel your pain ... so glad my car is pre-computer! ..... I'd rather chisel a new cylinder head out of solid with a blunt penknife than wrestle with all that digital mumbo-jumbo. Hope it works out for you! 🙂

Good luck, people have unkind things to say of the Gems system but having not experienced one I'll not comment - I have the Hotwire on my 3.9Ltr and have never had cause to plug it into anything and nor did I my previous Plus 8 with similar engine.

If it starts running rough I'll investigate where and how it needs to plug in, I think people worry unnecessarily when they start monitoring things they didn't know existed.

I do know that a new set of plugs and leads + rotor arm every now and again helps to keep things suent, the bottle of Forte fuel additive has certainly returned the snap to my 27 year old and improved mpg.

Hi witghtmog,

Sorry to hear about your pain, the truth is aging engine management systems can be challenging, it may sound extreme but I'd recommend investing in a good modern aftermarket ECU.

If your engine/ECU loom is in good shape, a plug and play install would be the way to go, you just need the pin in/outs and a patch cable can be made allowing you to simply plug in the new ECU to your existing loom.

I did exactly this with my Duratec Plus 4 using a plug and play EMU Black ECU from ECU Masters.

If you make this change I promise you it'll save you money in the long run, and you'll never look back thumbs

Dave.

On the other hand you could bin the all electronics and fit a nice set of IDA Webers to really impress... Sorry my Luddite preferences got the better of me...(-:
