There are obviously some variations out there Ken, this explains why the very helpful parts guy at Brands Hatch Morgan had three sizes on file.

I was running out of time, so with the motor factor about to shut I had to take a punt or I wouldn't have got home on Thursday evening, I went with PK61305 and luckily it was a perfect fit.

However, given there are clearly some differences out there, so I'd suggest people at least make a note of what belt their car currently runs, or better still buy a spare and keep it in the car so if it is lost on a drive you can pop the correct belt on in minutes and be on your way.

I've just bought my quality Gates brand spare belt from a trusted seller on eBay for a fraction under £20.00, they list my 6PK1305 as fitting a 2008 2.0 litre Ford Focus Focus/C-Max, which makes sense to me.

Dave, investigating further the 6PK1368 belt was fitted in October 2012 after the alternator casing and mounting bracket broke near the top of the Col du Tourmalet. The car was recovered to a Ford dealer at Tarbes. Morgan couldn’t supply a new bracket as it came ready fitted to the engine so the bracket was welded and a new alternator and fan belt were fitted. In May 2013 the bracket broke again in a different place and a new bracket was fabricated and fitted using the same belt. This bracket broke in March 2015 and a more substantial bracket was fabricated and fitted and the fan belt was replaced with a 6PK1340.

I had photographed the 6PK1368 belt on the car when I returned from France assuming it was the correct belt. When it was replaced in March 2015 it was in the car when I collected it but I wasn’t told a different belt had been fitted. It has been in the car ever since as a spare.

Alternators have been a PITA as number three is about to be fitted. The casing of the first one broke while the car was still in warranty. The casing of the replacement cracked in France and now the casing of this replacement has fractured.

The Col du Tourmalet breakdown occurred two days after being recovered to Pamplona where the fuel pump was replaced. It made for an expensive trip.

I just changed the belt today and it is a 6PK 1340 - no power steering or a/c. maybe there is a difference in the pulley diameters. There is a fair amount of movement available from the tensioner, so I guess it will accommodate a range of belt sizes.

So the truth is I actually have no idea what belt Monty was running before it jumped off at Castle Combe, once it had left the party there was no walking the busy track to go looking for it!

Monty's original belt easily could have been a lot longer than the PK61305 I fitted on Thursday, actually of all the belt sizes quoted the 1,305mm option remains the shortest we now definitely know will fit. Once I'd confirmed the correct run, fitting the PK61305 was straightforward enough, if you're planning on carrying a spare belt don't forget to also pack a ratchet & 17mm socket, or a 17mm ring spanner to compress the tensioner pulley spring. With the tensioner spring compressed we got the new belt on ribbed pulleys first, then slipped it's back face over the smooth water pump pulley, it went on fine but I wouldn’t want a belt any shorter than 1,305mm.

The tensioner spring isn't the strongest I've ever felt, but in the case of my 1,305mm long belt I was pleased to find I needed to go right to the stop to get it on, with the tensioner released the belt was left nice a taut just as I would expect. Given Monty spat his original belt and I have my suspicions that one was longer, I suspect it was a lot less taught than what I've ended up with having fitted the PK61305, so hopefully that means I will not suffer the same issue again?

It was pure luck, but I'm left pleased I went with what I'd say is the shortest practical option that fits, especially given that Monty has now proven he can safely rev to 8,400rpm, where I've set the hard rev limiter. I appreciate it's unlikely other's with a Duratec Plus 4 will be revving their engine that high, however, it may be worth checking your current belt tension.

If your current belt does feel a bit lose, fitting a shorter version like the PK61305 I went with may be a sensible idea thumbs

Dave.

Now back home from our Yorkshire trip…I have had chance to look closely at my original belt and it is definitely 1306mm.
So that may explain why the 1305 was a tightish fit, (though one might think that 1mm is neither here nor there.)
My new unused spare is a german made “Continental”
