Maybe it is a sign of the times,who knows for certain. A fellow 'chair exercise class' buddy, was asking about my CX and the improvements in the Morgan chassis and suspension over the trad. She had been out in their beautiful 2012 Plus 4 last weekend into back country lanes around Yorkshire and despite all the SSL upgraded suspension on their car, they were shaken to bits. and quite tired out by the experience. They found the continous need to watch the road for the next dip/undulation was very tiring and spoilt the trip for them.

I got the feeling after many long years the love for their Morgan was deminishing rapidly.She felt the extra money to get into a CX was just a step too far at the moment, especially as they already had 2 other convertibles besides the Morgan. I could see a parting of the ways before too long...it had just come out of hibernation after nearly 2 years of being SORN, whilst her husband recovered from a serious illness...........maybe it's not the car and more an issue with the age profile and relative health of Morgan devotee's thats the bigger issue., I got the feeling the weekend ride had become a reality check for them.

Long gone are decent roads in the UK., which made the harsh Morgan ride more tolerable. Not many young buyers these days unless it has a Ford, VW or Peugeot badge on 2 door saloon/hatchback body.

Some may say the lowering price expectations works in the buyers favour, get more car for the buck, trouble is when you come to move it on......who else is interested ?

I think you are right to an extent in that those that can and want to spanner their own cars are on the wain and the CX ‘ers will be in general to younger clean fingernail people.

This matters not as long as they keep buying and enjoying the brand does though.

You're not wrong, but I'd rather like the challenge of home-maintaining a CX car. A copy of the Foxwell software for the laptop, an oscilloscope, and away we go.

The only hitch is that my car is probably only worth about £10k now and a decent Plus Four looks to be about £60k. Ah well, a chap can dream...

Indeed Rich....+8 that is, You are so right. The Cx has changed the face of Morgan buying and those younger buyers that would have shuffled through a few classic's during their earlier years will be buying the CX and beyond platform cars if that is Morgan takes their fancy at all!

John, I can feel for your friends re. the ride returned from the classic's due totally to our dilapidated roads, I cannot say it doesn't effect me too! An interesting point here though is my son tells me that sitting in the passenger seat is really comfortable and its hanging onto the controls that makes it such a raw and somewhat overly physical experience!

Now talking about my son.... when he was a kid I gave him my Marshall stack (amplifiers for guitars) and a 3/4 size guitar, no interest whatsoever! I sold it all eventually. Then at about 18/19 years old a basic bass guitar arrived in the post for him, he'd obviously done his homework as it was the best for the money he could have bought. "You used to play the bass dad, didn't you?" Well many custom guitars and amps etc. later He's finished a masters in music ,he's in two bands and more on the recording and session side have evolved. What's all this about I hear you say? Well a couple of months ago an old morris minor arrived on a flat bed trailer, "Thought you could show me how to fix it dad, find out what's wrong with it and teach me how to do it". Well, we're just about finished now and he's absolutely loving it. To watch his confidence grow and skill with the tools improve daily has been brilliant, so here's another spanner monkey made for the future!

He loves our Morgan and is 25 next year so gets to drive it himself! I know he'll never sell it, but to be able to fully enjoy his ownership time in the way I have is a gift you cannot force on a person but It must give us hope for the future that albeit perhaps a smaller percentage of the populous might be taking taking part ...... it will still be relevant in times to come.

Finally let's remember something Jullian said a while ago..... "Let's not see our mogs as rising assets, rather as something we use and enjoy. The price its worth when we sell is the market, the value we got during our time with it is what that ownership gave us". It's the price we pay for our pleasure. Words might be different but sentiment the same!

Top tip: a useful tactic for justifying purchases to 'Er Indoors is to say "Well at least I'm not splurging a couple of grand a year for membership of [insert name of swanky golf club]"

It's fairly priced, they just have a smaller market. I love my 4/4, 2015, lowish miles, but would like to add a three wheeler to the garage as well...

I agree with your first two points, but a spare tire in the rear—as is still possible today in the Plus Four—was already a feature of the 1939 4-4 Le Mans. Basically, the rear end looked the same back then as it does today. I find the look of a Morgan without a spare tire in the rear incomplete—I like that. Of course, I’m not referring to the version shown here with the tire on the luggage rack; that’s visually unappealing.
