My 1990 +8 started blowing the horn fuse intermittently. I assumed the horns had failed from age and water ingress but they test ok. As far as I can tell there's no relay in the circuit, just a 5A fuse. Has anyone else experienced this? My suspicions now lie in the indicator/flasher/horn stalk on the column right. Any tips on dismantling this?
Very common CJB, though a self-motivated horn is a new one on me. We have the most common stalk (all cars from 1977-1997) ever used on a Morgan, SQB119 and dubious Lucas affair. I carry a spare in all my Plus 8s. Like all parts, they cost a fortune of you source them when in need. (wryly) Not that hard to swap in. they are a plug-and-play part. One merely removes that stalk from the column (2 screws IIRC) and then there are two plugs..on large (interface) and a smaller one. This one seems a fair price.
https://l1nq.com/vaoruoe I have seen predators try to sell them in the 100s.
The interface comes in beige or black. (they are the same) One removes the old one, (2 screws) and then changes at the plugs, interface and a little thingie, and re-installs.
If the spray works, you are wise to carry a spare. Lorne
