This is the SW for the later Trads, think it's 'normally closed'
I think someone managed to find a direct alternative for the floor mounted plunger switch a couple of years ago ?
Could someone kindly post the details please...

Not sure if this is the correct switch you are talking about, but this is the one I bought and fitted to my 2016 4/4 ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/05/BCB0F7D4-DAB6-4976-BA0A-0E7DA1EDAA04.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/05/CBFC6953-31C0-4124-9383-A1A6BCC2EBD5.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2022/08/05/2C3132E6-F1EC-4B98-8D43-66ED65618313.jpg)

From a very dull memory, Of the two switches I thought one had it`s internal contacts Normally Closed (NC) and the contacts other switch mounted alongside were Normally Open (NO) although both switches are externally identical...?
Happy to be corrected if that is wrong info..

Happy to be corrected if that is wrong info.. I just googled it. Pedal at rest: The plunger is pressed in, so the contacts are open and there is no electrical continuity (open circuit). The brake lights are off. Pedal depressed: The plunger is released, so the contacts close, creating a closed circuit. The brake lights turn on.

From your description the brake light switch operation, it would seem to be a NC.

I bought several of the type Craig shows but because they took a while to arrive I decided to disassemble the original and with a bit of reshaping and oiling of the plunger, got it working again. There was a lot of dirt in the plunger housing.

Happy to be corrected if that is wrong info.. That is correct. Craig is also correct. The NC switch is for the brake light. The NO (Normally open) is an ECU input. I carried spares of both for my 2014 4/4.

I carried spares of both for my 2014 4/4. Many thanks for confirming the difference between the two switches Paul, I always had a poor memory, which has not improved with age.... I suspect those switches will be available from RS, the yellow label on the pic Craig posted looks like one of theirs...? While cleaning and lubricating the plunger can seem ideal, oil is an insulator and may cause issues if it gets onto the internal contacts.... Very unlikely....BUT..? I just put the part number into RS and tripped over this switch. there will be a different part number for the other switch one being NC and the other being NO.. https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/push-button-switches/1036252

My BL switch failed about 5 years ago, I ordered a new one and in the meantime gave the old one a good squirt of WD40 and it's still works.
