Hi John, the test piece of Delrin ordered is 150mm long... in theory it can produce 4 to 5 units. I will see how the Delrin mills, it should be a case of 3 holes to drill per clip and a bit of milling, but this piece will be the test run. If all goes well I may modify ever so slightly the design with a small slot to help locate a tie wrap that can be placed over the rod. will see. If it goes ok, I am happy to produce a small batch for other pre MY 23 owners, but it will be a winter job. My mill is not CNC its more "man-draulic".. innocent

Dave,

No pressure, if it happens it happens very kind of you to even consider such a request.

John, no problem if it mills out ok... sospan.. I did think about 3D printing, but the printer plastic would need to be high end and it might be a bit fiddly for a printer. I have used two different design 3D printed sun shades for our Garmin Nav in the Plus Six this and last summer in France, in both cases when the temperature was North of 40 deg C in direct sun the shades went floppy losing all shape, the standard printer plastic used was not good enough to keep structure rigidity at 40 + deg C.
The failure of the Morgan clip on my drivers door inner handle was most likely made worse by the very high temps, as it has distorted. In theory the Delrin should handle heat into the 40's ok... if it turns out it doesn't then the ultimate fix is a redesign of the clip and use aluminium or maybe brass.
I would love a 3D printer.. but I would never get it past " she who must be obeyed", I am already fighting rear guard action to keep my motorcycles laugh2

I wonder if my friend might be able to help. He is the chap who made some phone holders for us by 3d printing what was a slightly more complex version of Roger's original brilliant design. He has some sophisticated materials. Would you like me to ask him?

Morning Nick, yes please ask him, the clip is not large its 28mm in length x 9mm wide by 19mm total height, but it involves 3 or 4 drillings ( circular holes of 3.5mm ) to locate the rods. Plus there are some cut outs that I would normally mill out from a solid blank but maybe able to 3D print in construction.
The key part is the plastic used would need to have a good tensile strength and high heat resistance.

Hi Dave,
My friend Mark is happy to explore the idea. He thinks off the top of his head, that a material called PA12 with added carbon fibre would do the trick.
He would need a good drawing and pictures of course.
I suggest in the first instance you email him at sales@morgan-gadgets.com (a site he set up for the satnav clips), I've set the scene so he will know what you are talking about.
Just must mention that he would be doing it as a favour to the Morgan community, charging only to cover his costs. 3D printing is just a hobby, not his source of income. So he can't promise to do it but it's worth exploring.
