Definitely in the category of First World Problems... BUT, I've always found the area around the ignition lock to be a bit tight when putting the standard key in the ignition (of my RHD car). A quick look on eBay found a key blank which is 15mm shorter.
Sometimes it's the little things that make a difference!

For reference, the standard key is 73mm long and the new one is 58mm.

I didn't like the oversized key either, so I shortened one...

If anyone's interested, THIS EBAY BLANK is the same length as the one that I used.

Lesson for today: Not all M3Ws are the same! Who knew?
Upon inspecting another M3W, who's owner insisted that he's never had a problem inserting his key, it was apparent that his ignition barrel is mounted slightly more rearwards than mine is. Therefore it's not so tucked away and he has an easier key approach angle. Some people have all the luck!

And even the "standard" key is not as standard as it should be with some being shorter than others.... as standard.
