Bit far or I'd be there ( was at the Doune round catching up with all my old paddock-mates ... was weird being there without a racecar). Wallace is on a roll after the Channel Islands rounds so he'll be worth looking out for ... all pretty close at the top of the rankings so it'll be well-fought! 🙂

Yes a pity, we use to watch the Bouley Bay event when we were out there on an engineering visit, caught it twice, we were lucky enough that the company paid for the Bouley Bay Hotel (the start line) which has the best dining room view in the world and magnificent food.

Our station was at Trinity so a couple of minutes away in the Avis.

Budster budster would have come so missing him.

P.S. Revival will be here soon enough for us to meet up.

Results from day one for Keith and Graham.

Wiscombe Park Hillclimb

·
The first day of our British Championship event organised by Woolbridge MC on Saturday produced plenty of surprises....and records!
In this brief round up, we will bring you the highlights. Also check out the album of photo’s.
We welcomed a bumper crowd – it may be a record attendance – we are still checking the figures -for the highlight of our season.
British Hillclimb Championship – Round 19 was won by Wallace Menzies – this means that Wallace has won 6 out of the last 7 events – his charge for the title continues! There was drama for Matt Ryder – he suffered a drive shaft failure as he headed to the line. It only takes half an hour to replace the shafts (and that has now been done in readiness for Sunday). However Matt was unable to qualify. Will Hall finished second just 0.24 off of Wallace and Alex Summers completed the podium with a fine third place, 0.85s adrift of Will. Alex was in his self-designed and built AFS P8t – this is the best result so far for the new car.
Another of the Top 12 Run Off regulars, Plymouth racer Alex Coles, suffered a big accident. He started to lose the Force TA at Bunnys Leap – unable to correct it, he left the track and impacted heavily with the tyre barrier at The Gate. Fortunately, Alex was unscathed, and amazingly, when the car was pulled away from the barriers, Alex was able to drive it back to the paddock. The carbon fibre cars are incredibly strong.
In the Top 10 Tin Top Challenge, it was Damien Bradley who chalked up another win. More drama for Simon Bainbridge in the mighty SBR Chrono. In the qualifying run, the Chrono stopped at Martini, so he did not qualify.
There were many happy drivers in the paddock. Paul Reynolds set a new National Class Record breaking the existing record that had stood for 10 years. Paul Haimes also set a new Class Record.
Several drivers reported that the track had tremendous grip today – one of those being Simon Ashley. He set his quickest ever time in the Ralt RT3.
Dean Tighe was pleased with his debut in the ex-Graham Wynn Gould GR59. He recorded 145mph up Castle Straight! When he spoke to him later, he told me that the Gould turns in better than any car he has ever driven. So much so, that when he turned into Martini he demolished two floppies! And the Australian hospitality from Dean and Wayne Penrose is awesome. Dean’s partner Cheryl sent me home with a wonderful slice of lemon meringue pie! You dont often get that in the paddock.
And Mark Schlanker celebrated a significant birthday – Happy Birthday Mark!
The event is sponsored by the Porsche Centre Exeter and the Porsche Paddock display was very busy all day.
And if you want to catch up on the action, you can watch the Speed on Screen recording of the live stream
and if you cannot be with us on Sunday, tune into the live stream.
And the good news is that we do it all again on Sunday! Wallace for win number two of the weekend? Dont bet against it – the Flying Scotsman is meteoric at the moment and back to his best form.

Thanks for that Rich ... Wallace had a good day as I thought, but with Matt's driveshaft fixed it will be all to play for tomorrow ... any one of four or five drivers could take it as the margins are so small ... good to see Alex getting 3rd ... have talked about him and his car on the Mcmurtry thread ... some acheivement in the modern era to design, build and drive to the sharp end of the results, your own Carbon tubbed single-seater ... the tech is staggering for a one man band effort....I stand in awe!.

The live feed seems a bit laggy and makes a lot of the cars look slow .... the regular live-stream guy has had to stand back due to workload ... makes you realise how good he was.

Keith, pleased you appreciated the update - when Wiscombe put day 2 up I'll forward it on.

In the event I never got to Wiscombe as some punt in a Porsche Taycan decided to overtake us in the Puma on the "on" slip of the A38 at Buckfastleigh to find something on the carriageway so ended up crashing into us on the drivers side such that his nearside scraped along our car, his rear nearside wheel took out our front right alloy and tyre. With this the Puma accident control applied full brakes on which of course took the other alloy and tyre out. So no steering or brakes and we are heading towards a mini which is broadside stradling both lanes so we just brace as we have been passengers since the tyres went. The only saving grace was that this was all at low speed and the airbags did not deploy.

I ran back and checked the occupants of the Mini were ok which they were, and as I said it was a low speed incident thankfully.

We have an independent witness who was also interviewed by the police and corroberated our experience.

The police breathalized drivers and took a full witness statement from me and the others, my result was zero.

We have a Police log reference and we wait and see what happens next as our insurers pursue him for all costs.

I have a full set of damning photographs so the fully tattoed shaven headed lump of excrement will find no hiding space - he had tailgated us for 15 miles or so....the police have cctv of this.

Our car with less that 6k on it I imagine will be written off but it protected us well with it's alloy panels crumpling away just as a Morgan does absorbing the impacts so we were lucky and the police woman went above and beyond.

Wiscombe next year.

This library shot from Saturday..

Well that wasn't to plan I'm sure .... though if you and yours are unscathed and the guilty party identified and logged you should at least get recompence!

As I suspected, Matt was all fired up after his driveshaft failure in Saturday put him out of the runoff, and went on a charge to the the top slot with a new outright Hill Record ... it's a great season with plenty of to and fro at the pointy end of the results.

The Morgan pic must be coming into Martini hairpin .... only left-hander you'd be smoking the tyres .... it's at the end of a straight the top single seater guys hit 140+ up and it's tight!!!.

Hopefully catch up at Goodwood

There is video on the Wiscombe site of the guy in a single seater a bit too hot and off roading at speed - disengaged the car from the scenery and drives back to the pit area calm as you like, what a testament to the cars and drivers.

Goodwood is all booked so as long as we can all find each other we’ll be ok.
