I was once flying my aircraft, a Robin DR400/100, on a nice little day trip. Shortly after the initial climb out just levelled off and set up in the cruise, I noticed a 60mm long M6 Allen head bolt and penny washer rolling about in the passenger side foot well. As you can imagine this grabbed my attention. A quick check that all the controls worked normally then a gentle rate one turn for home. It took me and the licenced engineer a couple of days to find its origin. It turned out to be one of the bolts that secure the instrument panel to the airframe.

All this has shades of Le Mans 66 Ford Vs Ferrari, when Matt Damon, AKA Carroll Shelby, walks over to the front of Ferrari pit and quietly drops a nut on the deck soon after one of the Ferrari`s has not long left the pit following service, creating confusion when one of the service crew spots it.... ? (-:

Indeed, a minor mystery. Particularly when MMC have no idea.

Half serious reply. MMC accidentally left a box of such screws behind dash during build and there finding they're finding a way out

As Richard says MMC are known for leaving behind / inside forgotten screws, nuts etc.
Dash off the front looks like this & screws don't seem to be in that picture.

I remember working on cars with my dad. It was amazing what could be found when dismantling cars.
Coins, tools, papers.....
In our rugby club a prank we used to do was put a coin or stone inside a metal hubcap. Produced a nice rattle when going slow but disappeared at speed due to centrifugal effect.

The head of the screw looks very much like the one in the top left and right of your photograph. I thought they were likely self tapping wood screws. I have noticed that in rain I now get a drip on my left foot from the underside of the dash assembly. Maybe the fixings have come loose and opened a gap somewhere?

Is it reasonably straightforward to remove the dash assembly?
