Of all the turbo Porsche my ideal garage would have a 993 turbo in it.

I second the vote for buying a second hand CX, great cars. Looking forward to driving down to Malvern on Monday, hopefully the forecast rain holds off, its aways great driving an open top car around dawn, with the fresh cooler air, giving that added edge to performance, it also makes you feel more alive to the environment.

Simon, I am pleased that you found some interest in my experience relative to the 993`s UK launch. That I was able to drive it over the Dukes Pass was a dream test location for me , as opposed a race track.. (-:

I suspect much depends upon the era where one`s personal datum might be set when it comes to making judgements on much...? I restored my first Porsche, a 60`s 912 in the late seventies, Porsche were a rarity back then in my part of the world and the 912 was a rot box, but it was a Porsche and I wished to see what all the hype was about, after that moved on to a "real Porsche" a 77 Carrera 3 a rare beast and with quite a few issues to resolve, followed that with my 911 SC which was bought as a non runner, it had been driven till the clutch totally failed.... Just my kind of car... (-: All of which totalled a few decades of hands on Porsche air cooled experience.

As I typed above, I suspect one`s determinations may depend upon where in time/place one sets a datum from which to measure all else...(-: For me the last real 911 was the 3.2 Carrera, after which Porsche set out to make it simpler to handle, by introducing power steering, ABS, along with suspension changes and much else in the form of the 964...and as I hinted the 993 took all that a stage further by getting amongst the rear suspension design, and replacing the simple torsion bar design and replacing it with a multi link system.... By which time Porsche were at risk financially, and as best I can remember involved one of the big Japanese manufacturers to advise them on a whole new set of methods to produce their cars. I have often read it was the then new 4x4 SUV`s that turned the finances around and in a BIG way, not the 996...?

Apparently the 997, uses the same platform as the 996, I guess Porsche learned that from the Japanese who learned that from the Americans whereas the 991 was an entirely new platform with all sorts of changes in materials and methods used to create the monocoque, thus perhaps similar in terms of engineering "advance" from the 3.2 Carrera, compared to the 993..?

Some might say vive le difference, whereas those with Luddite tendencies might hark back to some degree when a 911 SC required some degree of extra concentration when pushing on compared to any of the more modern versions, perhaps a sports car that evolved to become more a GT in the Grand Tourer sense, yet if you want to really press on, there is no real surprise to find the sports car hiding within... Just that I suspect one will be travelling over the Tarmac considerably quicker than any 3.2 Carrera....?

1560, for sure as has been pointed out in a very recent thread, Morgans seem to potentially cost much more to repair in recent years. Apparently Thatcham surveyed why it seems many modern vehicles are costing so much to repair that insurance companies are finding it more to their advantage to write off vehicles rather than repair damage to vehicles which a few years back would be considered a reasonably straight forward repair.. As for EV`s even the slightest damage seems to have them written off, as such are the regulations relative to skill set required to work on the DC drive voltages that it seems there are not enough certificated tecs in the country trained to work on EV`s.... As for your Porsche 1560, yeah as they age and become to old to run on Porsches Extended Warranty, there will ever be a risk that repairs could exceed the value of the vehicle, which in truth has ever been the way with high end vehicles, just take a Bentley W12 GT, a wonderful bit of kit if ever there was.... You can pick one of those up VERY cheaply, or at least think you have till you put it in for just a service.. Ouch..!

Modern cars are a nightmare to maintain, when they go wrong, and perhaps why cars from the late 80`s early 90`s seem to be in favour amongst some of the young and ...err..mature alike...? Apparently even a Corsa along with many many other formerly small reliable first cars for youngsters, seem to have potential to destroy their engines due to missing service intervals on wet belt engines...? Seems to me the drive to reduce emissions and improve MPG may be in the process of killing off modern ICE`s..... Anyone with conspiracy theory tendencies could have a field day given some of the vids I have watched....(-: Could all be "fake news"... but..?

Back to Morgans, lest I may be excommunicated by the faithful... (-: Just received my Mog`s altered registration document back from the DVLA, who have deemed to provide the old thing with HISTORICAL status, I can now if I wish, seek to save on the cost of MOT`s into the future too... So win win to the old and simple Mog, for it`s equally simple owner...(-:
