One can only imagine what it must be like on one in a blow, maybe Murray will comment 😎 Pleased that there was interest found in my old pics.... Not exactly Beken quality, but perhaps captured the scale of a J Class vessel compared to that which other average sailors can be very proud of (-: I don`t do envy, thus when i look at Velsheda, or indeed a Bugatti, or wonderfully architecturally interesting house, that such things exist provides me with a degree of pleasure in my ability to appreciate them for that which they are... Works well for me..(-: EDIT Seems I was typing at the same time todays updates were posted.... And which seem to be along similar lines.... I wonder why...? Like you George I don't do envy as I am happy with my toys as they are all simple so my little brain is not overstretched managing any aspect of them. To appreciate the talent and abilities that have created such beauties is a gift we can all enjoy sans hair shirt. Karma is a thing.

Bristol's beautiful architecture and churches were built on the back of the slave trade as were many cities delights. We are lucky to have such beautiful things to inherit and enjoy that are remembered long after the crimes of the time are forgotten. Enjoy the visual feast of a properly built boats still being used as designed as your offering is but doesn't have to have five folk to launch/recover it We had a Broom wooden speed boat with a 50 horse Mercury on the back on the Broads back in the Sixties now that was fun and beautifully crafted in their yard in Brundall and just like a Morgan we went along to see it's progress in the yard.. We see the boat you mentioned often as it is a charter vessel for the oppulent to hire or part hire - it's commerce but an ugly plastic lump all the same. I used to love our family holidays on the Broads in the 60's, my uncle used to knock on the little grubby office door of any boatyard we passed and asked if they would show us round, it fired a lifelong interest in boats, including scratch built models - some of which I still have

Ranworth and Hickling were my favourites at the time. Well done on the boat building, I think we would appreciate seeing one or two unless you have them entombed in an attic somewhere.

Thanks Richard, just watched, my goodness some lumpy bits of sea in the opening seconds. An absolute beauty and that spinnaker is impressive.

Richard you are absolutely right , in any sort of steady breeze the J class and their modern replicas are awe inspiring up close , the power ! And they require a well drilled crew to get the best out of them, I would avoid standing too close to the headsail sheets or turning blocks by choice . Down below they have all had buckets spent on them as well, the current crews dont have a rough hammock in the focsle any more -its all air con and beautiful meals . Sailmakers have done well out of the renewal of interest in these lovely craft too, one sail order is a magnitude of work that a few years ago was hard to imagine, of course with modern synthetic cloths and running rigging the rig loads have skyrocketed and so above deck it has to be redesigned to allow for this. Talking of the Broads -I shall be afloat on them in three weeks yippee -hopefully your summer will last.

Murray, thank you very much for an insight into this elevated world quite amazing with aircon and luxury dining is nothing like I was expecting to hear..
Someone on the Dart did mention that our visitor was worth 19.5M so I guess they have to feed and care for their crew well to get the performance out of them.
Our Son did his Yacht Masters and met a few of the winch grinders during his training and they seemed to be a special bunch according to Joe..
So am I right in assuming the change in sail materials has upped the speed of these craft now hence updating of winches et al.
You know our Summer will go on forever, I certainly hope so for you and your family on the Broads, looking forward to meeting up at Revival.
