I have been working with Mark (who 3D printed the Sat Nav holders for our cars ) on a 3D printed connecting clip for the 2019-2023 CX cars that have the first design of interior door lock handle.

As you will see from my post concerning "rip off spares price" the plastic clip that holds the door lock and interior handle rods very often fails and is not sold separately by Morgan. If you need to purchase the plastic clip you have to purchase the complete interior lock door handle at £110.00 + VAT.

We now have a working prototype ( version 18 ) that will be soon tested in my car. ( 2020 Plus Six ) . A drawing of the plastic clip is as follows:



The clip has been redesigned with slots along its bottom and side to hold in place a tie wrap that would go over the horizontal rod section that is clipped in place, the tie wrap slots prevent the tie wrap coming off and provides a secondary level of security to hold the rods in place in the clip..

I drew up a very basic elevation drawing, this was then redrawn by Mark for 3D printing. Mark has spent a lot of time fine tuning the 3D printing and selecting the right material that will be used in the clip. As mentioned he is now on the 18th variation.

Mark is doing this work at less than breakeven, the cost is £40.00 plus post for a pair ( Two clips, this allows for one per door ).. This may seem expensive for a relatively small plastic clip, but as Mark is making a small batch there is no cost advantage of mass production and it is still way cheaper than having to buy the door handles from Morgan. To my mind these clips are a fairly essential item to have available if you have the earlier design interior door catch handle.

We need at least 5 people interested in this please to show commitment to purchase the clips. If you are interested, please can you just post your interest on this post. Once the testing is complete and we have a final working version, then purchasing via Mark can be organised etc.

I am interested, but I think I read that the latest cars with the revised door handles, have a different set up. Do you know if that is correct and when the change occurred? Mine is 2025.

You should be ok, I believe its the pre 2023 cars that have the earlier interior handle and door lock rod setup. I wish we had access to parts schematics for the CX generation of cars, it would be so much easier to sort spares, but only dealers have that ability it seems.

My 2023 car had a seized inner release. Outside button was ok. It was a plastic clip popped off a rod. No damage and a simple click back into place. I took the opportunity to lubricate the mechanisn while the door card was off.
I should have taken Photos! DOH!
Top section simply held by 4 push trim clips. Lower section had 3 screws underneath, escutcheon unscrewed, 6 screws holding the lower card to the door frame at the top.

Yesterday our cars radiator failed, so it is now with the main dealer until a replacement is fitted. Mark had already mailed me a prototype clip to try, however, we are now without the test car and do not yet have a date when it will be returned.

Mark has asked me if anyone is willing/able to fit a prototype in their car in the meantime, it would first mean trial fitting with feedback to Mark and myself. If you are interested pls PM me with a contact email and Mark will be in touch to send out a prototype.

If the above is not possible it may mean a longer wait until our car comes home and the project resumes.

Good morning Nestor, the plastic clip connects the interior door handle rod to the door lock rod. It is located behind the door card about 20 cms from the interior door handle toward the door lock.
The interior door handle design with the clip applies to the 2019 to 2022 cars. The door handle design changed for the 2023MY onward with no clip.
My car is presently with the dealer having another radiator fitted, when it returns I will take some photos.

If it’s helpful my passenger door clip gave way a couple of years ago. It turned out the clip didn’t actually break - the design is a bit weird; the clip itself just connects two L shaped rods. One of these had popped out causing the interior door handle to fail. I took the door card off and simply attached some cable ties over the clip to hold the L shaped rods in place. It has held ever since, See pics.

That is good work indeed. The rod from the inner handle to the plastic link has come out of its seating and left me with an inoperative inside door catch on a couple of occasions, and I have become quite adept at removing the lower door card and the "Morris Marina" door handle to re-attach the rod - which requires the compression of spring while the rod hooks into the nylon link. I can do it in about 20 minutes. Unfortunately it has just this minute happened again while the car was with MMC for service and they have charged me 1.5 hours labour (£165 plus VAT) to fix it, which I am not best pleased about, but will now become very much their problem should it happen again.

PS. I like your idea of putting a cable tie over the joint to hold the rod in its seat. That really should secure it for good, unless the plastic link should break - in which case your resource is invaluable.

I received a pair of the "Connectors - Handle to Link Rod" from MGOC Spares (£3.95 each) earlier today. They are almost certainly 3d printed items, but none the worse for that. Furthermore I am 95% certain they are identical to the connectors as fitted to CX Morgans 2019 - 2023. I cant be 100% sure because I do not propose to remove my lower door card and go through the rigmarole of fitting one to further check it out. But having done so a number of times quite recently - while fitting replacement door speakers, sound deadening and fleece - and having taken plenty of photos, these connectors look identical apart from being black as opposed to white.

Davetherave my apologies if this rains on your parade in any way, but hopefully it is positive news that may save you the time and expense of a limited run of 3d printing.

We already have taken many hours developing a suitable replacement, the redesigned clip is also 3D printed but it has been modified and strengthened to prevent the known issue of disconnection and/or warping of the connector, it is also of a suitable 3D printing material to take the forces. FYI the first 3D printed units using normal 3D printing materials failed. Version 18 will be going into test mode in two weeks time when my car is available.. It will then take a few weeks of testing to insure the design works. This will also test the actual ID of the clips holding channels, which have to be the right dimension to hold the rod size that Morgan uses.

Its a free market and up to everyone which to choose.. the idea behind the redesign is to overcome the issues with the present design and the non availability as such from Morgan.. The modified unit shown on this post is way more expensive due to the input time of the 3D developer.

So, our Plus Six now has its 5th radiator fitted, we have survived a holiday in Greece with kids and grand children and we are now back recovering...

I have fitted the Mk 18 door clip into the Plus Six drivers side, it fitted perfectly, a strong push fit and clipped perfectly into place. The designed tie wrap channels work well to locate and hold a tie wrap in place for secondary security of the rod in its clip, although the fit is very good and some may prefer not to use the tie wrap option.

I have attached 4 photos of the clip in its rods and also fitted with tie wraps, note the position of the tie wrap "heads", these were positioned to ensure it did not catch the door card when the interior door catch is operated. I have test opened about 100 times so far and all looks good.

I am chatting with Mark to see if the design needs any other design tweaks..
