I went away for a couple of months, hooked up the CTEK charger and somehow I either blew the hook-up down there in the depths, or the mains turned off and the batt charger did not reset. Dead batt. Thought I'd "whip it out" and go get another one. Two hours later I'm still marveling at the crazy installation! Am I missing something, or do you really have to take the whole tray out downwards to get the battery out? And then, really looking forward to this, get it "up" with the new batt on it?

Does your rear "parcel Shelf" panel not come out so you can access the battery from above?

Yes it does. Trouble is the battery does not come out upwards because of the restriction with (1) the rear axle (2) the two side "uprights" welded on the tray that holds the tie-down bar and (3) the welded upright that holds the whole thing up - which snags on the rear axle if you try to swing down the tray by loosening the rear attachment bolts. Only solution seems to be to detach the whole tray (with the battery on it) and hope it slides out beneath the car.. the reverse process is something I'm not looking forward to at all!

Hi, My 4/4 has a panel on the vertical face (behind Passenger seat) which is removable. I have (maybe incorrectly) assumed that was to access the battery. Only discovered it when the carpeting "flopped" down.

Yes I looked at that briefly: I'll go look at it again. Anything to avoid what I contemplating!

Yes you use the removable panel.
If that fails (and I know because my old 4/4 had no panel) you get access by jacking the car up on the rear axle, for me at least it left enough gap and you slide the battery out under the car taking car not to short it on the chasi

Alas that option looks even worse. The board goes right across, includes trim at the prop shaft tunnel and has more trim glued on to it either side! mm.. there must be a magic solution out there..

Hmmmm.........I blame the factory! They put the battery in place in the Chassis Shop...well before the body goes on!

I moved my battery from the front to the back on my +8. The rear battery position does make it a pig to get out.

My solution was to take it to the local Kwik Fit equivalent and say "Change the battery mate"

aha.. the Magic Solution: Kwik Fit! Actually I've put the durn thing on an 8amp batt charger over-night so I am hoping to blast it into existence. We'll see tomorrow..otherwise:
