An odd one this but we had driven up in the EV to Dundee for a cruise to see the solar eclipse off Greenland (we were 2 miles off the coast). Yes that cruise where someone fell overboard off Arbroath sadly.

Felixstowe Dundee return is 950 miles so we stopped over up & down.

Up we stopped in Alnwick for the beauty & also in Dundee to be safe time wise & explore .

Coming back we blasted it & half way is Darlington. So Google suggested the Holiday Inn.

I wasn't expecting much but the rooms were clean & comfortable, the food really quite good. We paid £74 for B&B for 2 .

It is quiet you can't hear the A1 & for us next door was 150 Kw ev charging point.

So if you need a flop & drop heading up or down to Scotland this might be an option.

Helpful John - TBH, I've stumbled across a few Holiday Inn gems and "clean and comfortable" is all you need when it is a bed for the night during a road trip.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Mrs W and I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Aylesbury one year on a Kop Hill trip, and we were very impressed. We've found that for overnight stays on the road, Premier Inn are normally a reliable bet, although it's best to book as early as possible to get the best prices. I'm not sure what difference closing their restaurants is going to make, though. We always avoid Travelodge, even if desperate.

Yes our choice is Premier Inn unless we know a good local one but without the restaurants they seem not owrth it. Trsvelodges we don't especially like.
