I picked up a puncture at The Bentley Drivers Club day at Silverstone and my tyres are 2010 Yokohama's, so time for a new set. This will be the 4th. new tyres in 42,000 miles over 36 years so I haven't ever worn them out. It seems Yokohama no longer make 205/60 R15 tyres and I'm inclined to fit something more at the budget end from the Far East as they'll go out of date before I wear them out and rarely drive in the wet or winter. Any thoughts or experience? Kumho's or Nexen's ?

Uniroyal Rainsport (The Rain Tyre). 205/55 R16 91V for me the best tyre ever on my Plus 8 run @ 21 psi perfect for maximum traction with no rolling. 15" tyresGot five fitted at my MOT Indy for £400 on the MMC 16” lightweight alloys. Cheap for your safety and repeat at 5 years happily.

Out of the two makes you’ve listed Kumho tyres were used frequently by sprinters as they are soft and grippy. They don’t last long but you’ll at least have half a chance of wearing them out before they go off/hard/out of date.

Yes. I am looking as well. There is no other components as important on a trad than its tyres. If you spend money on anything, spend it on good rubber. I have always used the best I can find. This is after all, our hobby. Never anything below a "V" rating. Sadly, (the developed world made an inexplicable aesthetic choice to remove air and replace it with metal 25 years ago. ) . 15" and even 16" tyres have become hard to find up there. Outside of those areas I can get anything I want in 15". Longstone has some Michelin Primacy 3s "coming in" 205 60R15. Fabulous tyre. Ignore the Goodrich they sell. BTW, I have also used 195 65R15s, a good swap and a size that is easier to find. L.

I have TOYO's on two of my V8 Morgans, seem ok and no worse than the Yokohamas used previously.

Run Toyo Proxes on my 1980 +8 ever since Yokos not available as 205/60 VR15. Covered 40 k miles in all weathers happy with their performance on 2 sets. Also have them on my MB GLE43.

Spot on Lorne and they put you in the VW polo tyre size so because of the volume sales they are all way cheaper and you get a fantastic choice of premium brands. My last set of five were just under £350 and the 65 profile revolutionised my ride with no apparent losses compared to the 60 profile, normal road use though, I don't track my car as sometimes I like to take it out the next day!

It seems Toyo no longer make an R15, gomog is spot on! Thank you gentlemen. I am a buyer at the moment. Though they have low usage since I moved to the Andes, what's on the car are 10 years old. The only thing worth buying in Canada now is Pirelli P6000s (incidentally the original Plus 8 tyres) with a long wait. And they are $500 cdn per... So I need feedback. I have more choice buying such quality, (especially with all Canada's new trade deals) from Longstone rather than locally in Canada, and I do not want to ship tyres up from South America (where 15 inch tyres in every make or quality can still be had). Canada is a desert for the right or even, now, in 195 65 R15. Lorne

I've recently fitted Hankook Ventus Prime to my plus 8 having been recommended by my garagiste, they're ace. Good grip dry and wet and a better ride than the Toyo Proxes I had before. I'd have had the Toyos again if they'd been available but very happy with the Hankooks.
