I have a most annoying problem with my 2009 Plus4. When it has been driven for about a half hour or so and the car and brakes are well warmed up, having stopped, say at a junction, on moving off I hear various noises which sound like brakes un-sticking. Yesterday having driven about 150Kms I was parking where I had to stop and move slowly and I could detect a slight "shudder" in the steering, indicating the brakes had not fully released. After about half a second, all is free.

This does NOT happen when the car is cold or had driven only a few Kms!!!

I have checked all brakes, I've had a VERY experienced classic car mechanic replace the brake fluid and check the car over. He says the car is very "free" and checked the brakes fully, albeit in his garage. He checked it all and then drove the car, but I suspect it had, by then cooled down sufficiently for the problem not to manifest itself.

He assures me the problem is not serious, but the noises etc are driving me mad!!(more mad than usual!!!) Does anyone on the forum have any ideas?????

We do not have a dedicated Morgan dealership in Ireland and I would like to solve the issue without paying the ferry companies the €300 to traverse the "Pond" to the UK if I can help it!!!

Has anyone on the forum experienced this issue and, if so, what was the solution.

Sadly IMHO there isn't enough of a market to support a sole dealership here in Ireland, particularly at present. We do have a dealer, but for various reasons I would not entrust my car to them!!

No experience of the car but I'd do this:

Dissemble clean and check - probably nothing to see, but a good idea in any event.

When you re-assemble put a thin smear of copperslip on the backs of the pads, and any pins they slide on. If things are sticking, this should fix it. Take car not to get the grease on the disks/drums, friction material or rubber components.

The Gomog link is useful, but does not detail this problem.

Thanks for this, but I have done all this already but it didn't sole the problem. I also thought that perhaps it was an issue of not enough grease on the taper of the hub where the wheel mates up to the hub, but it isn't that either!!

I'm stumped!

Tricky! If a brake is sticking, the hub will run hotter. Carefully, after the problem is noted, check all four wheels for warmth. You're unlikely to have a major hot spot but don't burn yourself.

While it's not impossible, it's unlikely all four wheels have the same problem. I'd be tempted to replace the linings on any axle that was suspected. While I've never had it, low life do make copies of Ferrodo, Mintex and other good names, so buy from somewhere the trade buys from.

Great challenge...it only happens when warm, affects all four wheels and you have had a experienced mechanic to check the complete system...then we have to turn into some wild guesses:

Rubber brake hoses could be damaged on the inside (and look like new on the outside) and cause some strange sensations in the system (but your car is a little bit to new for that).

If it affects all four wheels - master cylinder?

Crazy thought...check the pedals and linkage so no electric wires, hoses, mats or other interior is interfering with the pedal return.

I am now thinking that it may be a problem with the servo pressures or perhaps a valve in the servo sticking when hot. I'm sure someone will come up with the answer -- I just have to keep looking!!

Martyn -- I changed all the brake linings at the start of things!!

I have heard of with mildly warped discs the pads sticking in stopping.

Do you feel any vibration on braking?
