Seems to me, many car manufacturers decided ugly front was the way to go, especially BMW . At one time it was ugly non European look cars from South Korea , I had the ugly back off centre handled Sante Fe…….now the new one is a brick on wheels.
I like the Mazda front especially the side view of it .

Thanks, the tide moves very fast. It was nearly half way in when those photos were taken so goes out a lot further and when it comes in it nearly reaches the grass on top of the dunes. If you look closely you can see a car on the soft sand on the left of the photo. I think that is the car that is bogged and will end up under water because it went too close to the dunes where the sand gets very soft. There is also a windsurfer on wheels thing that looks like fun.

I will do a post on the trip as I think some people might find it interesting, I love thread drift but I think that might be a bit too much of a drift.

Does she ever do 400 miles in a day?

Yes on occasions, and 300+ more often. Hence wanting a 400+ advertised range as the reality is rarely as good.

One thing to bear in mind if you do high mileages in an EV but want to charge at home rather than at a high output DC charger is the number of miles you can put on during an overnight charge.

A typical home charger is 7KW and the usual cheap overnight rate goes from Midnight to 05:00. So this gives you the ability to put in 35KWh of charge - and actually a bit less due to conversion losses.

If you bat up and down motorways at 70mph for your 300 miles, you'll probably be getting 4 miles/KWh or less, so your 35KWh will be giving you only 140 miles of range - not enough to replace 300 miles of range in a single overnight charge at the cheap rate.

So what does this mean? You may well find that it's sensible to use a high output charger on these long trips, especially as you'll be stopping for a refreshment/bio-break every couple of hours anyway - it's good to stay hydrated and refreshed on a long journey. And doing these long journeys for work means you'll be claiming back the cost so the higher price won't impact you.

A typical DC charger can bang in 150KW, and some can do up to 350KW (assuming your car can take it). So a 20 minute coffee stop will see you adding something like 200 miles of range in that time.

For those much more frequent occasions when you aren't doing 3 or 400 miles in a day, your cheap overnight charge at home will be more than adequate.

So the upshot is you might well find that monster range isn't actually that much of a requirement any way, and something in the 250 mile bracket could well suit you better, not least because it gets you a much wider choice of cars. Start the day with a full 250 mile range on board, do 200 miles, stop for a wee and a coffee, do another 200 miles, you've got your 400 mile journey done with no problem.

I have a 3 x 16 amp connection, my home charger is 11 kW. I did use it for a Tesla Model S 85 kW and the first generation MBW iX3 approx 80 kW for the last 10 years.Fast enough. With my new BMW iX3 50 Neue Klasse I have a 800 V platform with can charge AC 22 kW. The old charger was incompatible with the new iX3, so I was forced to have a new charger installed. For 22 kW due to new regulations in the Netherland I should have a new ground cable to my house which would add almost € 1000,- extra to the bill. So I decided to stay with 11 kW and with load balancing with this new generation Easee Charge Plus charger I can direct during daylight all the surplus of my 18 solar panels to the charger, so I had many "free rides" this summer. But bottomline, 11 kW is sufficient in most of the cases. My new iX3 can have 400 kW DC (if you find them), but during a holiday to the South of the Black Forrest that meant it was feeling as if driving an ICE car. With 130 km/h, AC on, passengers and bike carrier 550 km+! You need to stop for some refreshments and sanitary reasons, but the car can still go on. A charging stop for 10-15 minute is often enough. I'm very happy with this last generation iX3.

We tend to do big mileages on the weekend, and try to avoid motorways as they're efficient but deadly dull. If we do stop for a comfort break it's a village cafe, pub or NT place. Not many chargers in these locations!

So current thinking is we'll do most journeys in the MG, Morgan or Harley and leave the EV for her work stuff when she's being paid to wait for the milk float to charge. Can't say I'm too disappointed.......

I suspect your good lady will quite enjoy the advantages of an EV, and you might be surprised to see just how many charging opportunities there off the m/way network. I think there are apps available in terms op providing data such as location numbers and type. A relative did the NC500 in his Tesla without issue, he beamed up all the charging points and planned everything before he left home.
EV ownership can be a lot more convenient than most folk might think... Even the occasional selective Luddite can be seduced... (-:

Indeed. There's a saying in the EV community - 'Range anxiety is something that is only experienced by people who don't own an EV'.
