I wonder if any member can shed light on where to obtain a dimmer rheostat for my 4/4 1994 1800 instrument panel? I have been given a Lucas part number of 78526 by the usual supplier of bits and they do not have one in stock. They are thought to be possibly obsolete now. They also said Austin mini BMC 13h9027.

The usual extensive on line searches have not come up with anything.

Also if any member knows the resistive value of this dimmer I could obtain a similar rheostat and fit/modify one.

YEP! They are not exactly bright at max chat and why would you want to turn them off anyway. Works far better if you delete it totally and just chock box the wires.

There seem to be several panel light rheostats available at the moment typically in the range 0 - 11 Ω. Try AES, Holden etc.

Thanks for all the comments. It is presently bridged and was really wanting to turn down the brightness!

Well you will have to go the route Richard has suggested if you want that control. Fortunately it's a simple fit! My 2010 plus 4 at full up brilliance isn't what you'd call bright and our now long gone CVH 4-4 wasn't much better, actually much worse so for me, and as I rarely do much night driving, I like it as bright as it will go when driving in the gloaming.

Probably way cheaper to pop lower wattage bulbs in ?
