As I had to visit the factory it presented an opportunity to look at one of the photographic build records, and give my assessment.

The first impression is that this is not some cheap album you can buy in Boots, on the contrary it is a brown leather bound album embossed with the Morgan logo and held together by a leather strap (bonnet style). The album is contained in a special presentation box adorned with the Morgan logo.

As well as images of your car in production the album contains some printed material about the history of Morgan and the cars, together with a picture of the factory. This is not a digital album but a hand made product, with each photograph taken during the production process mounted on a dedicated page with a black background. The pictures I viewed were quite sharp and of good quality given the challenge of taking images under fluorescent light.

This is a bespoke and unique product and not something you can easily produce yourself. To do a DIY job you would need to be camped out at the MMC for almost three weeks, and would have to ask permission to go beyond the red areas marked for visitors. For some areas such as the paint shop visitors are not normally admitted.

In my opinion it would certainly cost you £175 in time and hassle, and for those who do not live close to the factory, the album is a wonderful record of your car being built.

PS The album I looked at was for a classic car - I have not seen the build album for an M3W.

When I ordered my 4/4 Sport which I took delivery of in early August 2010, I ordered the build book. I also requested a CD of the photos used in the book which the factory provided. When reviewing the digital photos from the CD, I noticed that some of the files were tagged with dates. The first eight photos (basic chassis/body work) had dates ranging from 8.10.08 to 23.2.09. One of the photos had a calendar on the wall in the background of the factory opened to February 2009. My car's build did not start until 14.06.10 according to the build ticket.

Don't mean to burst any bubbles. A little of the romance of the Morgan legend was lost. I was a bit disappointed that my build book was not totally of my car, but that's life. It is a nicely done leather bound book, but I am not sure it is worth the price.

Still organizing a fight for factory coverage of my stress cracked windscreen.

Maybe you'd have been better off commissioning Jays to do it for you, seeing as he seems to live at the works and is clearly handy with a camera.

They'll be charging Jays rent if he's not careful.

I didn't get the CD but did order the build record. I always suspected there were some generic photos in there but still thought it was a nice thing to have. It is quite expensive when thought of as a photo album, but hardly noticible if considered as part of the cost of a new car.

It would be a nice touch to hide this cost in the build of the car and give one to everyone that purchases a brand new car.......the last photo in the album being the handover of the keys!

The build record for my Aero seems to include one or two piccies of a 'generic' Aero. Leather folder is nice, and overall I was pleased to have it.

If you don't get it you can never get it later!
