Talk Morgan Forums Morgan Sports Cars Classic Morgans (pre-CX) cracked rear wings

A friend has a '94 4/4. Is has recently devedlopped cracks in both rear wings. In the wheelarches, just back of the highest point there is a crack from the outer edge, radially into the wing, about 1,5" long.

We are puzzled. What could have caused this? Has anyone else experienced it? Is it a known problem. Can it be fixed or do the wings need replacing? Any advice welcome.

I don't think it is a known issue.

Without wanting to to scare your friend I think the first thing to do is to get underneath it and inspect the chassis carefully to see if has split anywhere and if not galvanised (I think it was only optional in 94?) you will also need to look for corrosion causing potential weakness.

Seems very odd. My 94 4/4 (steel) never did this and my +4 doesn't show this

It happened on a 4/4 1966 a few days after the owner had "straightened" the rear ends of the wings by pulling them upwards to make them horizontal (before they had looked like they were sagging). Could there have been some strain in the wings of your friends car?
