I think the point is that other cars, especially the R300 to R500, can take the extra power, it appears that the M3W can hardly manage the power it currently has, so why give it more or maybe the current owners saying that they couldn't handle more [my interpretation] are incorrect?

Paul, Out of all of us Aeroman is best placed to comment. But take a look at the left tyre in this picture and make up your own mind. If you want more power then I think you won't be able to stop at that, wheels, tyres and brakes would all need looking at.

Okay so you've given it more power,
What do you do with the brakes and tyres? On the Smart? Nothing. On the M3W? No idea, but from what you guys are saying, I'll only go fast in a straight line There's a big difference between NEEDING more power and WANTING more power My understanding is that it doesn't need more power, but there will always be some who will want more, thus why wouldn't MMC or S&S offer a 'more power' kit?
Cheers

If you want more power then I think you won't be able to stop at that, wheels, tyres and brakes would all need looking at. Brakes I accept are one aspect, but with more power wouldn't you just arrive at that corner a bit earlier and then go round in an identical manner? (that's where the updated brakes may be involved). Didn't Aeroman say that he harried cars in the corners but they pulled away on the straights? I think if you were looking at improving lap times, or wanted the vehicle to be quicker on the road overall, you certainly would look at tyres (and brakes as mentioned) also, but nowt wrong in wanting more power overall in my opinion? There will be a stage where it becomes ridiculous but it's far from there. I would add, that the handling characteristics seem to be one of the upsides of the car so actually I would be very reticent to change that, unless as mentioned earlier lap times were important.
Cheers

It's a cracking photo. But, a simple question - were the tyres still at normal road pressures? It's normal for track use to raise the pressure a bit...

Unfortunately, I only harried some cars in the corners in the wet Boshers, it was an open-day pit and some of the drivers were a bit nervous and that's where the handling of the 3W comes to the fore. The 3W as it comes is imho a pretty balanced package and whilst It really does not need any more power, I'm not saying I wouldn't take advantage of a tuning pack!

I did increase the tyre pressures all round by some 5psi Graham, but it didn't seem to have made a lot of difference to the front ones. Maybe it's because they are motorbike tyres (I think that is right?) and they are designed in a different way to normal car tyres; just a thought? Maybe the motor afficianadoes can explain further?

The tyre fitted is adequate for my vintage trike but lately folk have been singing the praises of Blockley tyres. 130mph rated and designed for cars - the Avon is a sidecar tyre. I know a racer that uses them and a picture of him going round a bend at Silverstone does not look anywhere near as iffy! Could be said to be too vintage, make your own mind up: Blockley tyres

They are tyres for two wheelers. Yes the internal design is different... Can't help wondering whether tyres for sidecar (i.e. flatter tread rather than rounded) or Longstone / Blockley traditional style car tyres (those tall skinny ones as seen on vintage cars) may not be a better bet. Just an example, but I know Russ (former lead at Prescott Driver's School) raised the pressure on BHM's +4 Morgan by some 14 - 16 psi over the road pressure. He thought it handled reasonably after that (he's not a Morgan person ). Cheers,
