I'd get one from Cropredy Bridge that needs tidying but has had money spent on mechanicals. A project Interceptor could be a moneypit...

Wonderful cars. Mmm. All the best things are from the Midlands - not that I'm biased!.. wink

Get yourself a 107 500SL. Built like a tank and a superb everyday car. Or a 300 is you don't like big V8's.

You'll get one for less than this but this is rare with low miles and mint

Is it the noise/ ride/ room/ or anything in particular which you don't really like in the Morgan? A lot of the suggested marks are quite spacious etc. I see the benefits in many of them and having owned a fair few myself and numerous others - I'm wondering why the obvious ones aren't being mentioned. SC Targa/ Opel Monza/ First year Lexus SC 400 Cab/ Jensen Healey/ and have you noticed how desirable the 'Saint' Volvo car looks in a contemporary setting?

Viper - I reckon you're bang on the money with that. Beautiful, practical, refined, reliable and collectable. One of the last old school Mercs, & before it gets into the scary irreparable electronics era.

Oh yes +1

Re Motorways: love 'em when they are empty: for "traffic" driving I find the Mog road-noisy - despite the noise cancelling headphones! I guess I'm saying I'd rather use a fhc as a "normal" car/winter car/traffic car. E320 Cab and SL would be OK (I think) because of the "proper" hood or hard top option. What's the Morgan hard-top like as a matter of interest - never been in one.. but I suspect it's not exactly refined in there!
Really like the look of this suggestion:

Thanks Pandy and a good price..
Love reading all these ideas: I started to think about the list of cars I have owned (I'm 63) so thought I would share them as I don't want a repeat car..
MGA, Sunbeam Tiger, 1959 Mercedes 220, 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood, Mini Van, London Taxi, Transit Van, Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV, Saab 99 Turbo, Audi Quattro (the original one), Subaru, Renault Espace, Jaguar XJS, and currently: Landrover County 1986 3.5 Supercharged, Mini Countryman (my wife's), & Morgan Roadster.

In the Milan area you are often unable to use an older car when there are days of high polution. Only Euro 4 and above allowed. Personally I would not have a classic vehicle for regular use anyway. I have been there and done that and spent a lot of time and money keeping it on the road.

That was one of the main attractions for the Morgan. An all new classic car with a modern engine. drive

Motorway speeds are much more comfortable with the top up but it does flap a little. I suspect a hard top would be fine (if it was not too hard to get off).

Any comments from hard top owners?

On this subject, I have just completed a major mechanical refurb/upgrade on a S1 Etype Rdstr and literally just jumped out of it having done a journey inc the M25 with all the traffic and I was thinking that with all I've done its made it hugely usable in everyday modern traffic.

Upgades inc mapable fuel injection, upgraded brakes, suspension, cooling charging 5 speed box etc etc. Great fun
