This is a car I wasn't familiar with until I spotted an advert on ClassicCarsForSale...

What is interesting is that the advert isn't for a car but for the moulds to make the kits, including templates for carpets and dashboards and build manual.

I must say from the pictures I've found on the net it's one of the better looking kits I've seen, although I've never encountered one in the flesh.

Price about £19K including a TR6 donor, for anyone considering getting into the car business.

i suspect the real problem is that it would have to be re engineered for a different donor (including a chassis...) as the supply of rusty TR's with ok oily bits must have dried up by now. Even the TR6 goes for quite strong money now and the ones on the market will be by and large ones that have been either cherished or restored.

I'd rather spend my money on restoring a TR than fitting that body on one! Also..."Hathaway Hunter" don't quite roll off the tongue as well as "Morgan"...sounds like some king of old fashioned pocket watch!

Agree with you on both points Jay, and as for "Hathaway Hunter", I used to know a lady called Doris Morris.

I'm buying one of these kits and mounting it on a 1964 TR4. I have a TR-powered Plus 4 four-seater and this will make a good stablemate for it. A nice feature of the Hunter roadster is that I can have a Laycock de Normanville overdrive. The four-speed Moss gearbox limits the Plus 4 on long highway treks, and the overdrive is a big help. Unfortunately, the Morgan factory never installed the overdrive, and retrofitting one requires serious cutting and welding of the chassis frame. On the TR4, installing the overdrive is a bolt-on operation.

It would be tempting to mount the kit on a TR6 with its straight-six engine, but in America the TR6 was detuned to reduce air pollution and it's a disappointment below 40 mph. Also, with the TR4 chassis I'll be able to make more direct comparisons between the Hathaway Hunter and my Plus 4.
