Just bought a small grease gun with 3oz cartridges for front suspension but not sure about grease. Can't find any Moly type cartridges this size and these ones 'should be OK' the supplier says. It is just general grease, mineral oil, fatty acid soap for 'most greasing requirements'.
Any advice before I start using it? Tempted by Graham's 'any is better than none'

Moly grease is just the normal LM grease which is called a lithium soap with some moly additive in.

In the vast majority of cases you can use either. It's only in things like constant velocity joints etc that it will make a big differance. Or someone said Morgan steering boxes.

In saying that to save space it's probably easier just to have one grease in stock so just buy molygrease.

The nice thing about the LM grease is that you can tell when it is dirty and needs changed but the moly grease is always black.

As I can't seem to get molygrease only this 'general grease' ,presumably LM,in small cartridges, I'll go with that then and hope it's OK.

Rather than hoping, why not buy some moly grease and a grease gun which will cost you £20 tops. That way you'll know exactly what's been used. Why risk an expensive failure for the sake of a few quid?

From my experience for cars with the one-shot oiling system moly grease is too thin and washed out in short time. For cars with top grease nipples it is probably the best. IMHO a standard grease is okay with short greasing intervals.

This is a brand new small gun for use with 3oz cartridges as due to arthritis I can no longer manage a standard gun. So I seem to be stuck with the only grease I can get which is not Moly but 'general grease'.
It's a 2007 car and I've always put moly top and bottom every 1000miles but hoped this would do instead. Local garage charged £50 to make a complete mess, thus my dilema/catch 22. Trust this explains. Thanks, Dave

That sounds nasty. Try your local agricultural suppliers. The ones round here a load cheaper than the classic car folks for stuff like grease nipples and once you explain what you want can be really helpful.

Is there no way of filling your small gun direct from a pot rather than by using cartridges?

You can also buy electrically driven grease guns for aound £100 on e bay.

Really appreciate all the suggestions folks. Guess I could spoon molly in but that kind of cancels the cartridge idea. amazed I can't find 3oz molly cartridges. Suppose I need a definitive answer on 'general grease' cartridges.
