Oh the joys of being retired in SW France! Spent a sunny day with a group of like-minded car enthusiasts - went on a lovely scenic run with a 4/4, Lotus, MGs, Triumph, Westfield, AH Sprite & enjoyed a cracking 5 course lunch (inc wine /coffee) for 12 euros! Not only was today's organiser (ex-Plus 8 owner, today in the Lotus) born in Malvern, but his mum spent all her working life making hoods & tonneaux at the factory - to top it all, at the lunch stop, along came Monsieur Bernard, a charming Frenchman, who was enthusing about the cars & it turned out that he owns a 1976 4/4 - fancy that! After our run through that part of the world on the way home and considering Lombardia in Northern Italy is one of the most expensive places to live we just might join you (in retirement in SW France).

Exactly where was this fabulous 5 course lunch? And were there oysters? Note: Price is per dozen, opened and served on a plate with a slice of lemon.

It's why I love France. That's what I call top takeaway food.
Mind you, when I'm over on one of my regular trips to Southwold a dressed crab from one of the fishermens huts in the harbour, ready to eat complete with a plastic fork for a few quid takes a lot of beating.

Yes we're very lucky One of the good things about life over here is that car clubs are not restricted to a certain marque - everyone is welcome from a Mini to a Ferrari! Regarding our repas, it was in a little village, Marcillac le Franc, just outside La Rochefoucauld (famous for it's impressive chateau) - no oysters I'm afraid, but a melt-in-the-mouth Boeuf Bourgignon!
