Hi,
Have had my plus 4 almost a year, 2500 wonderful miles (and smiles)
I have noticed a pronounced clunk from the rear of the car when coming to a stop or moving away again. I'm not very mechanically
minded but I have checked things like the battery, spare wheel and everything underneath that I can reach, and it doesn@t sound like the rear axle. The car is still under warranty, but its a 250 mile round trip for me to return to Newtown Motors who supplied the car.and the sevice isn't due for a couple of months or so.
Any suggestions or ideas would be very welcome.
Thanks, Roganval

Have you checked the tightness of the wheel nuts?

Roganval,
I have a 2009 plus4 and it has a limited slip diff --- Has yours??
I had a similar "clunk" when parking / moving off which I assumed was sticking brakes and I endured a 7 month saga chasing brake issues -- to make a long story short it was the Limited slip diff and the issue was the wrong oil in it which meant that it was sticking when the oil got warm.

See http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/87162/1

The solution is to drain the diff and put 70ml of Friction Modifiers in the diff and then fill it with Castrol Syntrax 70-140 Limited slip diff oil. I was given this spec by the factory. They use a Millers oil which I cannot get here in Ireland.

I hope(in a way) that this is your problem too so you can obtain silence!! I am now delighted to be able to park my car without people thinking I don't maintain it properly!!!

Cheers!

Hi Robbie,
Many thanks for your reply, this could indeed be the answer to the clunk, because of my limited mechanical skills I think i will suggest this to Newtown when the car goes for service. I think I may have seen your car at Newtown last time I visited.
Thanks again.

Roganval,
I have sent you a PM with my phone number if you want to chat about it. Peter Constable is aware of the issue and its solution as I have kept him informed!
Cheers!

Hi guys. Do all Plus 4s have LSD or did you 'special order' this?

Not all plus4's have the LSD. You can tell by looking at the filler at the back of the diff --the LSD ones have a metal tag attached to the filler which warns to put the proper LSD oil + friction modifiers in it.
