That was quite difficult to watch and yes it certainly does focus the mind! Motor Sport is hopefully a tad safer now.

Nice piece of footage. Is that a Mog in action at about 3:10?
Watch the Hammond interview with Stirling Moss a few days ago how things have changed

I think that was the longest 4 minute video I have ever watched.
Most of those drivers were without seatbelts and roll cages and the tracks were about as dangerous as one could imagine. It is a good reminder about how exposed we actually are.
My father-in-law was a factory rider for Moto Guzzi in the 50s and most of his collegues didn't survive. He managed to break just about everything breakable at one time or another. We still have his leathers and a couple of his helmets as a reminder of how much track safety regulations have changed. He was very cynical about the spectators and used to say that they came to see the crashes but that that was what he was paid for.

The VSCC are still racing cars much like these- no seat belts or roll cages, but helmets, track surfaces and marshalling have improved considerably. Gerry.

It's an early MG TD. Rebuilt one of those about 20 years ago.

Horrifying video......somehow the music rather adds to the horror. Sad to say that in spite of the hopes of whoever made the video, some of those drivers will not have walked away with their lives. Very brave men and it puts into perspective the Formula One drivers of today with all their safety aids, safe tracks.......and huge salaries.
Peter....your mention of Moto Guzzi reminded me......I'll send you a PM!
