On our sojourn in the alps last summer it rained a lot. Unless it was absolutely hosing it down we found the hood up and sidescreens off combination to be a good one. Obviously wouldn't work for a high speed blast, but perfect for bimbling.
I've been managing to drive my morgan top down reasonably often between showers over the last few weeks. I've got slightly wet a couple of times, but with the tonneau covering the passenger side the interior of the car has stayed pretty dry.

Indeed, in summer rain hood up/sidescreens off is a nice way to drive, but when the wind gets up it can be fun. Jane and I got caught in France one year, when we went through crosswinds we could see the rain blowing horizontally through the cockpit, in Jane's side and out mine.

It always stops raining when I wash the car....sounds strange but why would I want to was the car when its raining??? Well I don't have to dry it Trouble is 9 out of 10 times its raining and I proceed to wash the car it stops raining and worse than that the sun comes out and its a mad mission to dry it before the sun does. Then when finished it rains again. This weather is so relentless and hugely frustrating What a load of tosh this is! This is from the man that spends ages cleaning a car and then won't drive it in the DRY, let alone the rain, because he doesn't want to get it dirty! (I'm just jealous of all of your garage ornaments )

The rain is frustrating but an improvement over the cold and incessant salting of the roads. I'll hold my hand up to being a little like Lee (Viper) because if I've spent ages cleaning the Morgan, I will think twice about driving it in inclement weather. Roll on the sun.

there wasn't one occasion where I felt inclined to lower the roof either too wet/ too buffetty/ too dark etc I can understand the wet, I can understand the "buffety" ( nice word) but the dark? I always reckon an open topped car of a dark night is magical. It's like sailing my boat across a calm sea with the engine off and all the stars shining. And I've never yet seen a mobile speed trap in the dark.

I have fond memories when I was nipper driving my Plus Eight with the hood off on soaked rain fed roads. I loved the shooshing and the spray around my ears. Made me feel alive. Must be like running through the village with your tackle out (I would imagine) My trouble is I've seen the state of some Aeros that have been used in wet weather. All the soaked and watermarked leather shriveled and manky door panels and the smell like a Sumo wrestlers strap (so they tell me)

Human skin is totally waterproof, so you won't actually get really wet. ...I have a faint idea, why englishmen develop such philosophy...

London, for example, gets less rain in a year than Vienna or Rome or Bordeaux. Much of England is relatively dry (with drought warnings at the moment! ). But Wales and western scotland can get more rain in 2 days than you get in a year. You can tell I'm bored to be looking up those statistics - and its thanks to the rain here today in Wales. I expect Noah to float by any minute.
