Indeed I vividly remember the day we went down ... having gone up early against Man Utd. I thought we might just scrape by - alas no... Oh how the fortunes have changed with Pompey!

Happy days. The team have done us proud this season; with such consistency, promotion was thoroughly deserved. It was pleasing that they were able to clinch it in such style at St Marys in front of the home crowd. The really encouraging thing is that the way the club is run club now seems really coherent, with the continued investment in the academy, and not spending money we haven't got. It's more in the style of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal than the billionaire's toybox approach. We have excellent owners who (unusually for football) have earned their fortune by manufacturing and paying their taxes; in Nicola Cortese we have a dynamic & ambitious chief executive and in Nigel Adkins we have an inspired and inspiring manager. I feel the club is well structured to meet the challenges of the Premiership.
Nigel Adkins has done a brilliant job. I remember when he was appointed one of my regulars was trying to wind me up, saying "Ha,ha, you've just hired Scunny's physio as your manager". I told him far better to hire a manager who has proved he can achieve great things on modest resources as he did at scunthorpe than a manager who has proved (usually several times) that he can fail at the highest level. As for the physio thing, I pointed out that Bob Paisley was a Physio before he went into management. 'Nuff said, that's good enough for me.

I feel that now is the right time to revive this thread.
Mighty Saints in 3rd place in the table, 3 players called up for England duty. What a remarkable job the club has done. In particular, from a fan's perspective, the really pleasing thing is how it has ben done in such large part by the players who the club has brought up through the academy, as well as those who have come up with us from league 1 - check out this article from the telegraph.
What's more, we have a player called Morgan (Morgan Schneiderlin)

...and manager of the month. I'll revive this if we get past Arsenal and Chelsea and are still up there....

Sorry, who are "the Saints" and what game do they play? Not rugby football, for certain.

Have you ever considered becoming a high court judge Peter ? In this case m'Lud I'm referring to Southampton's association football team. Had I been talking about the Saints in a Rugby Union context, I would have course been referring to Northampton.

I for one am not looking forward to my trip to St. Marys on the 7th of December, especially after last year!
Southampton are superb this season, what a defence.
Enjoy the ride, I hope it continues (from the 8th onwards of course).
