Needing new glasses, I was rather miffed to find that our local opticians can provide any shape - so long as you want rectangular. Best I could find was £200 for the frames only! Looking on line, I found a UK company specialising in period styles, cost about £69 for old but un-issued stock - exactly the shape I wanted, and amazing detailing. http://www.theoldglassesshop.co.uk/produ...Eyeglasses.html But a search on the company who made them (Willis & Geiger) turned up a USA fleabay seller with exactly the same frames - worked out at £24 including post for two pairs without lenses, and a further search found the cheapest UK option to handle the glazing (bad eyes, need very dense lenses so gets expensive). £270 Boots, or £162 online (10% discount for 2 pairs). If anyone is interested, Frames via http://stores.ebay.co.uk/jrzgrl1020 Lenses via http://www.glassescomplete.co.uk/reglaze-glasses/

I didn't realise it could be that easy. I might get myself a suitable pair for the Goodwood Revival.

It was a bit of an exploration, but worth it in the end. At least I understand a whole lot more about ordering glasses, and the intricate nature of lens and frame sizes. There are things I've learnt or worked out in this search that have never been mentioned by any optician I've dealt with. If your prescription isn't too bad (anything below 8 for Sph & Cyl combined), there are some good deals here if you go for a 2 for 1 offer. They won't touch me though! http://www.glassesdirect.co.uk/style/retro/

Try Spex4less. They are very helpful and inexpensive and I'll never buy from a high street optician again.
