The best times to go to Halfords are in the evening or weekends.

Reason being, quite a few of the staff at those times are often schoolkids and they either know more, or try harder than the regular staff. Stands to reason, smart schoolkids often get a part time job there, but if a job there is all you can get, you're not the fluffiest teddy in the shop are you? wink

My local Halfords has been updated (again) so when I called in last week for a few odds & ends I couldn't find anything. The range of goods has gone down. Things like brake cleaner for example, and the industrial wipes have reduced in size from jumbo plus to hold in one hand. Most irritating of all is the lack of choice in the double sided tape. How am I expected to manage without an array of DST for goodness sake.
Some years ago when the city centre Halfords closed in Sheffield, most of the staff lost their jobs because they didn't want to move. They were mostly middle aged ladies, who knew their stuff. They said it was down to management graduates - fresh out of Uni with big ideas. It looks like that's still going on. The traditional car spares shop is almost extinct.

I can only speak from my own experience; but the service I get from the staff at our local Halfords store is brilliant.

Mixed bag at mine - sometimes good, sometimes total indifference...

Edit: see more elaborate answer further down the thread... wink

The motorcycle model from garmin (660 i think) lastes a while and works in cars, it is even waterproof. It's slightly slow on the screen refresh, but otherwise a gem.

Back to the Sat Nav Thread. My Tom Tom of which I have always had mixed feelings, decided to mal function, just when I needed it, on day 3 or 4 of my Charity trip.

I actually stopped at a new Halfords in Berwick and came close to buying a replacement there.

I pressed on and then the plinth broke in two (couldn't stand the bouncing). Most of my Insulating Tape would not keep it together so abandoned it and used my new A to Z map book and my own Towns and Roads list for the rest of the trip.

I missed the 3D road view and it would have been handy the few times when I got lost.

The Tom Tom has definitely died completely goodnight . So what do I replace it with idea ?

Have a look at: http://www.satnaveasy.co.uk/

Lots of choice - but phone them to confirm a model is in stock before placing an online order...

And if you ever need to return one, be certain it goes back Recorded Delivery...

I have a Navman Mio 700 series (forget exact model) with the traffic master facility and wide 5" screen. Much better than my old Binatone...

Cheers,
