I did quite a lot of work in and around Jags at the time these were shipping. The 6 cyl engine came in 3.6l AJ6 and 4L AJ16 versions as far as I am aware. I never came across a factory or dealer turbo. It was not an easy engine to mess with due to heat issues. TWR and Lister did some conversions but these were mainly bodywork and brakes. Most upgrades focused on the 5.3 V12 and took it out to 6L which was a common conversion at the time for the saloon and XJ Coupe.

They did a 2.8 six for either the MkI or the MkII XJ6 and it was the only model offered with an optional set of foot pedals and chain drive.

It wasn't so bad, Alistair. It did 0-60 in under 10 secs and the then common Mercedes barges had no chance - wether in roadholding nor in comfort.

You could well be right Dean, given the famously random nature of the production line in those days you wonder which other "unexpected" combinations may have escaped !

My father bought an Austin Maestro HLS at one point and it arrived with HLE external spoilers and some VDP trim parts. We had to go back to the show room to check which bits were wrong and then found out the showroom car was also wrong to the catalogue. Nuts.

Graham,

Aston Martin used a supercharged 6-pot Jag engine in the DB7. But it was 3.2 litre, not 3.6. The supercharger was made by Eaton.

Maybe someone has swapped parts?

Nice!
But, unfortunately not. I'd have one if it was free!

The 6 cylinder came in a variety of capacities (was at the Jaguar Heritage Centre earlier today). All has gone quiet from my cousin at present, so either they are still trying to figure out what is wrong, or maybe comtemplating how much to ask for it! smile
As it was, had it been the XJS I would have been seriously interested...
