I hope you are colour blind Graham cos mine's red and I dont want any damage I dont flog mine hard come to think of it I will have forgotten how to drive it . It would seem red may be one of the hardest colours to see... Or maybe it's because red cars are driven harder??

Black and silver plates look so much better on a trad, stupid on a modern car.
Safety...... if you want safety dress up in cotton wool drive in a cotton wool filled tank preferably one with NBC survivability and only drive when there is no other person on the road.
Yes there is a risk element so is driving a mog with no roll over bar and in fact I would suggest more risk without the roll over bar.
Driving a mog is a risk end of, fancy a side impact?.... And I have had two in my life one a glancing blow but one an absolute perfect T and I can assure you I would rather be sitting in an XK8 when that happened than a mog!
Safety is important but I think you pays your money and takes your choice..... Im now off bungey jumping over a crocodile infested river in Zimbabwe having just short changed the operator

I am in total agreement speaking as a motorcyclist and a motorist in my experience it really wouldn't matter if number plates were high visibility and the size of barn doors some other members of the road using community having squashed you would say " Sorry mate I didn't see you" just another rule for black and silver plates and revenue stream for the government with plod handing out fines 
Neuro/orthopaedic or trauma surgery after you have been hit by a lorry ( perhaps driven by a European driver near or over his tacho limit) focusses the mind extremely well.Sorry if that sounds melodramatic but it happened to a friend of mine driving an MGB ( despite reflective number plates!)

We have two friends that had one back over them as they took an off ramp. The TIR was backing down the ramp because he had missed a turn into the lorry park. He didn't even feel the bump and it was only when one of them started banging on his door that he stopped (just before running over the one trapped underneath). They were on motorbikes and I don't think reflective plates were much help to them either. Fortunately no serious injuries but the two bikes were destroyed. Took 4 years to get the insurance payout. Edit: despite one hell of a fright they are both still riding motorbikes.
