There is no question it is a LT77, of the 2wd family and the final "S variant. That can be seen at a glance, Others have been posting pictures and videos of other earlier, 4wd LT77s, which have been misleading for you and other moggers. The non-sd1 remotes are a give away. The R380 (a earlier version with an internal weakness only cured in 1999) only appear a year and a bit later. It looks different, , though it has the same remote, but the placement of reverse is ok if the box is not visible.

Of course, that is it. The filler nut is square on most LT77s and Allen key'ed with R380s. Nobody mentioned that?
I was planning on using Castrol Transmax (meets requirements for ATF+3, Dextron III H and prior). .

As I noted, I do not want to recommend a fluid without fresh research. I see nothing harmful in a Dextron compatible fluid, but that will merely produce the same notchy feeling shift, characteristic of the LT77. I am sure there are intrepid LT77 souls enjoying the much smoother feeling one of the fully synthetic M94s will provide. (the discontinued Castrol SMX-S was GREAT). So unless one knows how to read a a gearbox spec sheet and compare it....

The best in the world is Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK. I know the owner for many years, I will drop him a note to shortcut the need for direct research.
