Ah yes, the crankshaft takes me back to my youth. Our Sulzer RD76 (760mm bore) engines required a hammer test after every transatlantic crossing, so while it was still hot we shut of the lube pumps, opened the crankcase doors and climbed inside to hit every nut and bolt with a hammer. If it rang all was good. If it thudded attention was required. Not a pleasant job, but necessary to keep the engine in fine fettle.
