Jeez, so sorry to read that, perhaps a battery isolation switch might be worth a try, when you do get the wiring issue sorted, which you will to then go on to really enjoy your "new" Morgan.
BTW my old Mog with it`s wet (not gel) battery is always connected to it`s CTEK MXS 3.6 float charger which I leave switched on. That has worked well for me even after very long (too long) periods of storage.
