I think rather a lot of woodscrews or self tappers into wood, plastic and other materials have suffered issues relative to being over-tightened to the extent that the intended amount of grip is lost in varying degrees dependant by how much the screw has been over-tightened when initially installed, partly stripping the "thread" the screw makes in the material it is being driven into....? I I do not remember this being much of an issue in the days prior to electric screwdrivers being in use..? I understand that many power driven screwdrivers have the ability to have the amount of torque applied to the screw set, however while that seems likely to operate well on a production line, if the screwdriver is used across a variety of tasks...Hmmm...?
If suffering a screw that can no longer grip in wood, I have been known to use a sliver of wood slid into the screw-hole then re-install the screw, which seems to work reasonably well..
