The deed is done and the eagle has landed...
Left home at 7am, back at 7pm. Misjudged the drive home, I thought about 170 miles 3-4hrs. It was 230 miles, starting in fog. Car is smooth, torquey and beautiful. The standard suspension surprised me. Seems well damped, not nadgery and not wallowing on bends. Happy with that.
There are some things to address.
- Significant wind noise, but I've just found the front left securing clamp was not fastened (to clamp the hood to the top of the screen). That can't have helped.
- The bottom two inches of the rear sidescreen seals on both sides don't tuck under, but flair out, away from the body, leaving daylight. A microfibre cloth sealed it off enough to remain comfortable. Quite a breeze from that area onto my elbow and side.
- Also, the sidescreens don't seal at the top, against the hood. Again, daylight visible, especially in the centre at the top. Draught and noise.
- I thought it came with the lockable compartment at the back of the parcel-shelf. It doesn't. So storing tools and puncture kit will need thought. But a bonus is it has sidescreen covers, which weren't mentioned before.
- Both front bonnet catches are very difficult to release / engage. I will look at that tomorrow to see if adjustment is easy,
- Pairing my phone was simple, but pointless. The stereo is poor and weak. I don't mind that though.
I ended up using my motorbike earplugs and it was then very pleasant at good cruising speeds. I only played a little with Sport, S+ and the paddles.
Huge positives:
- Wonderful looking thing
- The engine will be everything I'll ever need.
- The sports exhaust is very funny.
- Seat comfort is phenomenal. Nearly 5 hours, one stop for fuel and no ill effects.
- At 7/10ths the chassis / handling is good and on cold slippery roads, roadholding was confident.
Everything BMW is taught and powerful. Everything Morgan is quirky, old fashioned or quaint. Characterful. I think this is going to work very well for us. An enjoyable day. 🙂👍
