Dear Mr Stramik,
You've shown such remarkable compassion by donating to The Salvation Army. Without you, we simply wouldn't be able to reach people in need like Jay, whose story I want to share with you today.
At just 17 years old, following a breakdown of relationship with his stepfather, Jay found himself living on the streets in York, freezing cold. Scared of being mugged in the middle of the night and feeling totally alone in the world, Jay had hit rock bottom.

Sadly, there are many others like Jay who, through no fault of their own, end up in this dark place.
However, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we are able to accommodate over 2,950 people across our 77 supported accommodations every night.
At these Lifehouses, we not only provide a roof over their head but we also provide employment support, debt advice, skills training and offer advice to help them find a permanent place to call their own. Giving them the space to plan for a more stable future.
With generous people like yourself, the hard work of my Salvation Army colleagues, and real determination from young people like Jay, lives really can be transformed.
