I was idly watching YouTube videos one night and came across a review of a Pilot Boat/ coastal cruiser thing that only cost around £25k and had live aboard capability. Cheaper than a car. Just the thing for parking up at Gloucester and going for jaunts around the coast, I thought. Maybe a summer cruise up to the Western Isles.
Then I saw the range - 500 miles or so. And the size of the fuel tank - 700 litres at £1.80 or thereabouts per litre. Oops.
Yes. Even in a small sailing yacht of the sort I buy, the MPG when motoring at a giddy 5kn is typically about 12 in statute miles. For the big motor cruisers ( aka Tart Traps) you might get as high as 2mpg and as low as 2 gpm!
But lets be fair. Just like Morgans, these are toys and the running costs are lower than those of a 19 year old leggy blond, I am told!
