I have just finished:

One Woman's War by Eileen Younghusband - an excellent biographical tale of one of the WAAF plotters / filterers who made Watson-Watt's radar really effective.

A few weeks ago, I read:
Britain's Shield: Radar and the Defeat of the Luftwaffe by David Zimmerman - details the development of Radar and how Watson-Watt and the extended team made it a reality. It also describes some of the competing systems that were being seriously considered.

The two books together tell a powerful story of technology working best when people get organised.

What have you just read?

Richard as I said you should take the NT Ferry from Orford but also book the trailer tour because the site is huge.

The hidden history of Orford Ness by Paddy Heazell, one of a mixed batch of books we were gifted several years. Fascinating and in depth history of this essentially military test site in use before WW1 covering early radar through to testing nuclear bomb construction and tactics. Many of the people working there defined the term "boffin". Now owned by the National Trust, its piqued my interest to visit.

Having read some of the history of Orfordness I fancy a visit there too.

Went to see Sweet last month - they have a great sounding new lineup with only Andy (guitarist) left (UK flavour) although he admits he is in very poor health.

Again - there have been several Sweets
