Wells Vertige

For the same price as the forthcoming M3W. Just saying.

Yes, they have pretty much had to double the price they launched at in order to make some money moving forwards. At the same time they're taking it upmarket by improving the spec and fit/finish.

It is a wonderfully focused project and my hat is raised to them for their execution of it.

A bit like the rebirthed TVR, optimistic pricing on release in this modern world but when pegged against true competition still remaining real value. I keep looking at Exige's and feeling an itch.

It does make me look at the Alpine as pretty amazing value and sadly under appriciated. But that problem will go away shortly as they become another farcical loss to the age of BEV. Nothing wrong with going BEV but trying to araldite an Alpine badge onto a tweaked R5? Really. Nicole is probably consulting her lawyers about a divorce as we speak.

Rather unusually for a small British sports car company, Wells are still going strong. It's fair to say that the development of the Vertige has taken far longer than anticipated but production is now under way.
These are all the cars currently on the road with three more in various stages of assembly at the factory.

Power is currently provided by the 2.0 Ford Duratec (with an 'R' Spec option of 250bhp) but after the current batch of 10 cars they are switching to the 2.5L Duratec. Current owners report that the cars handle beautifully and are easy to live with. It's a similar size to a Lotus Elise but more practical with decent luggage space as well as being easier to get in and out of!

Watch out for a full Autocar road test in the new year.
