Finally get to say I am in possession of a Morgan. After some gearstick issues (sorted out with help on the forum here), I was able to bring Molly home yesterday.
My first knowledge of Morgan cars goes back a long way. Riding in the back of my father's Morris Minor, on the A1M near Doncaster we came upon a cloud of smoke being led by a Morgan 3 Wheeler. Dad explained what he knew - same build for years, frame out of wood etc. etc. and I stored it away in my 8 year old brain. I've always had a fascination for cars, so saw a few documentaries growing up and though wouldn't it be great to own one of the four wheel Morgans. We emigrated to Australia a couple of years later.
My first car in fact (and my second one) was a 69 GT Cortina. Funny how the world turns, driving Molly home yesterday it felt like old times - 1600 Kent motor and Ford 4 speed, Smiths gauges the whole business. The dash in fact looks suspiciously like my second GT (which was a Series 2)
About twenty years ago a client and I were chatting and he told me about his Morgan, and I remember rashly saying that if ever he wanted to sell it he should call me first. Well, he called me about a month ago, and here we are.
The car is a 1978 4/4, red wings, silver body. She is a movie star, the car that was used in a z-grade movie with Cheryl Ladd call "Now and Forever" in the early 80s - you can find it on YT, the car makes an appearance at about the 4 minute mark, don't bother watching any further. She's only had two owners since new and only has about 60,000 km on the clock. Bog original in every way except it has had electronic ignition fitted. I'm in love.
This forum has already been very useful, and I am learning much with each visit here and to GoMog. Look forward to being part of it.
