As I type, I have my Morgan on a container ship heading to Houston, TX. I am looking to get it titled and registered as soon as possible once it arrives. I have downloaded the Application for Texas Title and/or Registration from TXDMV, however I was wondering if I could leverage the experience of others that have gone through this process to know what additional forms I need to complete and the process to submit them. I believe I will need to get the VIN certified by the police department and have the car inspected.
I have to pay import duty on the car when it arrives, however I saw mentioned that there my also be an additional 6.25% vehicle sales and use tax. Does this apply to imported cars?
Thanks for your help. David

I imported mine through Savannah and registered in Kentucky. - Since it was over 25yrs, KY didn't charge me the sales tax (if under 25, yes, I would have had to pay it)!!! -The port tax, etc will most likely be charged via your importer. I used Schumacher. It took my car less time to clear customs that it did for me to get through chicago. - One small issue I had...KY didn't recognize the DVLA-5 as a form of title. They worked it from a detailed bill of sale from the dealer in the UK. - You may have to show the police where the vin is inscribed on the frame under the seat. In ky, the offices were right next door to each other. Police inspection was first and then right over to the dmv office!
Be sure to have the dollar to pound documented so you dont get over taxed!
Actual paperwork from Homeland Defense, EPA, etc will arrive at your house a week or two after import. Those documents are important if you ever go to sale the vehicle since it will be here legally and not a 'gray" car.
It actually went very smooth. Yell if I can be of any help.
