Me too. I think it's a bit of "the Emperor's clothes" thing, convince people with more money than sense that something is art and they'll agree and buy it rather than risk looking uneducated.
I agree, although I think the same about a lot of expensive items like watches, wine etc.
There's a show on called 'Fake or Fortune' where they investigate whether a painting can be attributed to a known artist, and if so, they value rises from £100's to £100,000's.
What they always fail to address is that regardless of the name of the painter, it's the same painting. Either it's a good painting or it isn't!
